Conflicts and wars of crisis zones 2015/2016 (2)

ABSTRACT: The events of 2015 did not bring peace or calm development process any closer in the world: fighting with an increasing number of actors continued in Afghanistan, Iraq, Syria, and Yemen, enmities are permanent in the Middle East, North and Central Africa, a war of brothers goes on between Slavic states in East Ukraine; terrorist acts are carried out all over the world, which sees religious, ethnic, tribal, and territorial wars, uncontrolled mass migration; uncontrolled terror-migration; all these events are further complicated with environmental disasters. What conclusions can be drawn from the events of the year 2015 and what can be expected from 2016 (and the next period of time) in the field of – more – successful conflict and crisis management? These are the questions which the author wishes to answer in his comprehensive analysis.

The exhibition “Freedom of the Baltic States: Baltic Graffiti on the Berlin Wall” is open to visitors at the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia permanent location at Latviešu strēlnieku laukums 1. The exhibition contains more than 100 photos of the Berlin Wall from the last years of its existence when it was regularly visited by the Latvian youth living in exile to leave their messages demanding the independence for the Baltic States. Latvian diplomat Pēteris Kārlis Elferts, the initiator of this exhibition was also among those young people who had launched the Berlin Wall graffiti drawing campaign.

Change of Command Ceremony in Sarajevo

On August 12 a ceremony was held marking the change of command of the EUFOR Multinational Battalion (MNBN) in Sarajevo. Together with a Turkish company, the Hungarian company will carry out the operational tasks of the battalion from this July until February next year.
