Until early June the word ‘spearhead’, which was having a real career in the media, was mostly a slogan waiting to be filled with content. The content was filled by the “Noble Jump” exercise conducted on June 9-18.

On Monday, December 22, 2014, to express appreciation for cooperation and support in EMPA's 2014 Congress' organization, and presentations at the Baltie Defence College, NATO Cooperative Cyber Defence Centre of Excellence, the Estonian Defence Forces 1st lnfantry Battalion and Kalev Infantry Battalion, as well as Amari Air Base, Colonel Aivar Jaeski, Deputy Director of NATO Strategic Communications Centre of Excellence was awarded with the Ministry of Defence of Latvia Certificate of Recognition.

NATO Deputy Secretary General, Amb. Alexander Vershbow (in the office since February 2012), in November 2014 visited Split as one of the senior speakers at the NATO-Industry Forum. The Forum organised annually, hosted by different NATO nation and serves as an optimal opportunity to discuss the burning strategic issues. We took the opportunity offered this year to interview the NATO Deputy Secretary General on the principal challenges faced by the Alliance, the future warfare and development.

On Wednesday, December 17, 2014, the very last edition of the Austrian Newspaper for Military and Security Policy, DER SOLDAT, was published.
 
As the Austrian MoD and CHOD have decided to unsubscribe the SOLDAT for the MoD and the Armed Forces and even to abandon all advertisements, the publisher of the SOLDAT had to cease the production of the newspaper.
 
After more than 58 years and exactly 1,409 editions one of the most successful military media in Austria has vanished.

The European Military Press Association (EMPA) 35th Congress was held in Tartu and Tallinn, Estonia from 23 to 27 September. The aim of the congress was to introduce military journalists and editors with Estonian Defence Forces and the Baltic Defence College (BALTDEFCOL). This was already the second EMPA’s congress that took place in the Baltic States; EMPA’s 2008 Congress was held in Latvia.

Currently, 143 members of the Armed Forces of Serbia are deployed in the UNIFIL Mission on Lebanon. Their task is to watch, monitor and maintain the ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon and to normalize living conditions, which is to conduct projects of civilian-military cooperation and to provide medical aid to local residents.

From September 29 to October 6 the international Land Force exercise „Silver Arrow” will be conducted in Adazi Training Area. More than 2100 soldiers from Latvia, Estonia, Great Britain, Greece, Norway and U.S. “Silver Arrow” has grown from national level Land Force Infantry Brigade and National Guard exercise to multinational large scale exercise.

Late July 2014 saw the final evaluatoion of the first Croatian Autonomous Vessel Protection Detachment – AVPD, which is to be deployed to EU NAVFOR SOMALIA – OPERATION ATALANTA by the end of the year. The responsible unit is the Croatian Navy, whose members have successfully participated in the operation at officer posts in the ATALANTA Headquarters in Northwood and aboard the ships deployed in the area. The first Croatian AVPD team will be composed of ten members, commanded by Lieutenant (N) Nenad Kontri.
