On 19 December, during a ceremonial event, two units of Armed Forces received vehicles presented by Norwegian Armed Forces.
The Minister of Defence Artis Pabriks and the Ambassador of Norway to Latvia Jan Ole Grevstad presented the keys of vehicles to soldiers of the Staff Battalion and National Guard 17th Air Defence Battalion, thus the first out of 34 presented vehicles, accompanied by the Military Police, reached the units.
January 20-21, Chief of Defence of Lithuania Maj Gen Arvydas Pocius will attend the meeting of the Chiefs of Defence (CHODs) of the Nordic and Baltic countries in Estonia where his Danish, Estonian, Latvian, Norwegian and Swedish counterparts will also be present.
On 18 January Dr. Csaba Hende, the Defence Minister of Hungary – which is currently holding the rotating EU Presidency – held talks with Norwegian Defence Minister Ms. Grete Faremo. The two-day visit of the Minister of Defence of the Kingdom of Norway is primarily aimed at discussing the program of Hungary’s EU Presidency in 2011, the results of the Lisbon NATO Summit and the bilateral military relations as well as some current issues in security policy.
The Nordic Battle Group (NBG11) formed by Sweden, Finland, Norway, Estonia and Ireland has a total complement of about 2,200 soldiers, of whom 200 are Finnish. The core of the Finnish contingent is a Jaeger company.
